நேற்று கனடாவிற்கான அமெரிக்க தூதுவர் பால் செல்லூச்சி கனடா அமெரிக்காவின்
“தீவிரவாதத்திற்கெதிரான போரில்” முனைப்புடன் சேர்ந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று மறு அழைப்பு
விடுத்திருக்கிறார். இதற்குக் காரணமாக அவர் காட்டியிருப்பது சமீபத்தில் ஸ்பெயினில் நடந்த குண்டு வெடிப்புகளை. நேற்று ஸ்பெயினுக்கு நேர்ந்தது நாளை கனடாவிற்கு நேரலாம் என்று எச்சரித்திருக்கிறார். இதைத் தவிர்க்க கனடா அமெரிக்காவுடன் கைகோர்த்து இராக்-ஆப்கானிஸ்தான்-(நாளை அமெரிக்கா எங்கெல்லாம் குண்டுபோடுமோ அங்கெல்லாம்) போராட வேண்டுமாம்.
அபத்தத்தின் உச்ச எல்லையை செல்லூச்சி தொட்டிருக்கிறார்.
சென்றவருடம் புஷ் இளையர் பேரழிவு ஆயுதங்கள் இராக்கிடம் இருப்பதாகச் சொல்லி போரைத்
துவங்கியபொழுது கனடாவின் அன்றைய பிரதமர் திரு ழான் க்ரெச்யென் கனடாவின் வழக்கத்திற்கு மாறாக அதன் அபத்தத்தை அமெரிக்காவிடம் எடுத்துச் சொல்லி இந்தப் போரில் பங்கேற்க முடியாது என்று தெளிவாகச் சொல்லிவிட்டார். வழக்கமாக, அமெரிக்கா சர்வதேச ரீதியில் என்ன செய்தாலும், கனடா அதன் பின்னால் துணைபோய் கொண்டிருக்கும். இதற்குக் காரணங்கள் பல உண்டு. முக்கியமான சில;
உலகின் நீண்ண்ண்ட பாதுகாப்பில்லாத தரயெல்லை அமெரிக்கா-கனடாவிற்கு இடையிலானது. கனடாவின் வர்த்தக சாத்தியங்கள் கிட்டத்தட்ட அமெரிக்காவுடன் பிண்ணிப் பிணையப்பட்டவை, கலாச்சார ரீதியாக கனேடியர்கள் அமெரிக்கத் தொலைக்காட்சியினால் கட்டிப் போடப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மேலாக அமெரிக்கா என்னும் வல்லரசின் பொருண்மையால் அருகிலிருக்கும் கனடா அழுத்தப்படுவது இயற்கைதானே.
இந்த நிலையில்தான் சென்ற வருடம் க்ரெட்ச்யென் அமெரிக்கர்களைப் பகைத்துக்கொண்டார். அந்த நேரத்தில் அமெரிக்க ஊடகங்களில் கனடாவை மறைமுகமாகப் பகடி செய்தும், நேரடியாகத் தாக்கியும் வந்த அபத்தங்களைப் பார்த்தவர்களுக்குத்தான் அமெரிக்காவின் பாசிசப் போக்குகள் பிடிபட வாய்ப்புகள் உண்டு. உதாரணமாக, டைம் இதழ் “உலக வரைபடத்தில் கனடா ஒரு நாள் காணமல்போனால்” என்று தலைப்பிட்டு தன்னுடைய முழு வார இதழையும் வெளியிட்டு ஆத்திரத்தைத் தீர்த்துக்கொண்டது.

பேனாவோடும் நோட்டுப்புத்தகங்களோடும் சென்ற ஐநா ஆயுதக் கண்கானிப்பாளர்கள் இராக்கை விட்டுத் துரத்தியடிக்கப்பட்டார்கள். அவர்களுக்குப் பதிலாக பல நூறூ ஆயுதமேந்திய அமெரிக்க/பிரிட்டிஷ் குண்டர்கள் வந்திறங்கினார்கள். ஓசாமாவைக் கண்டுபிடிக்க முடியவில்லை, பேரழிவு ஆயுதங்களை இனிமேல்தான் அமெரிக்கா இராக்கில் கொண்டுபோய் வைக்க வேண்டும், பிடிபட்ட(?) சதாம் உசேன் என்ன செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறார் என்று தெரியவில்லை. இராக்கின் எலிவளையிலிருந்து பிடிக்கப்பட்டு அமெரிக்காவின் பெருச்சாளிப் பொந்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டதைத் தவிர வேறொன்றும் நடக்கவில்லை.
ஆனால், மற்ற சோகமான விஷயங்களெல்லாம் நடந்துகொண்டுதான் இருக்கின்றன; வாரத்திற்கு நூறு இஸ்லாமியரும், பத்து அமெரிக்கப் படைவீரர்களும் செத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அமெரிக்க ஆயுத வியாபாரிகள் கொழுத்துக் கொண்டு வருகிறார்கள், அமெரிக்க ஊடகங்கள் அமெரிக்க-பிராண்ட் ஜனநாயகத்தின் காவலர்களாக நின்று துதிபாடி வருகிறார்கள். கொஞ்சமும் வெட்கமில்லாமல் இதையெல்லாம் தன்னுடைய அடுத்த வெற்றிக்குப் பிரச்சாரங்களாகப் பயன்படுத்த புஷ் தயாராகிவிட்டார். இதுவரை நடந்தவற்றிலேயே மோசமான விளைவு ஸ்பெயினுக்குக் கிடைத்திருக்கிறது. அமெரிக்காவின் வியாபார உத்தியை விலைகொடுத்து வாங்கியிருக்கிறார்கள். போருக்குமுன் பிரிட்டனில் 65% சதவீதம் இருந்த அமெரிக்க ஆதரவு இப்பொழுது 43% சதவீதமாகக் குறைந்திருக்கிறது. என்னுடைய வேண்டுதல்களெல்லாம் ஸ்பெயின் கொடுத்த விலைபோதும், பிரிட்டனும் அனுபவிக்க வேண்டாம்.
இந்த நிலையில் எந்த மூஞ்சியைவைத்துக் கொண்டு அமெரிக்கத் தூதர் பால் செல்லூச்சி கனடாவிற்கு அழைப்புவிடுக்கிறார் என்று தெரியவில்லை.

If this actually happened, what is the probability that you would have supported the war? I would guess zero or somewhere close to it. Time and again, such resolutions were passed but nothing happened.

You say that with absolute conviction as if you know everything that transpired. The fact that there hasn’t been a 9/11 since then is probably the due to this war. Who knows? As long as you don’t have data on what terrorist attacks were nipped in the bud, how can you say whether the war was a failure or a success? May be if US didn’t go to war, Toronto may have been wiped out. I don’t know, and I won’t make absolute judgements on the success of the war.

Muslim fundamentalists supposedly have been targeting Spain for a long time apparently. For all we know, this attack may have been plotted way before the war on Iraq or even 9/11. You are probably looking at a non-sequitor there.
I just want to say that the issues are so complicated that any one extreme point of view will be both partially right and partially wrong.

No, there are several minor incidents (to plan a 9/11 takes a long time and that happens only once or twice in the history), but there is a big 3/11 in spain – which in all probability could have been averted, without this war.

Come on!! If something happens in Spain it is their problem, but if something happens to US, spain should send its army to die in the desert. For american lives are more valuable than spanish (we all know that that’s why approx. 25% spanish speaking population in US does not even get 1% of the dignity that 10% french speaking gets up north).
BTW, according to your own statment if 3/11 were plotted long ago before 9/11 or saddam > you are yet to see the consequences of this war (as against your claim above that nothing has happened because of the war).

I never said Saddam = Bush. Since you cared to write about the few people who were dying in Iraq now, I just pointed out that people were dying in the previous regime too. To compare, one should look at death rates, income, infrastructure, education etc in one regime with the other. There are lots of news about rebuilding Iraq, schools opening, hospitals functioning, all of them are safely ignored by the left wing folks.
About Spain, you said that it was caused by towing America’s way on the war with Iraq. I said that may not be the case; the attack may have been planned before; I don’t understand your reply to it
Spanish speaking population in US has nothing to do with Spain. They are latin americans.
I also don’t comprehend your eagerness in taking one attack and debunking a war as failure. Ha, there is a terrorist attack, the war was against terrorism, so the war is failure! Don’t you see that this argument is hollow?
As I said, on this subject, no one side is right and no one side is wrong. To trivialize the arguments and point out just one side is just plain wrong. That’s why both the left and right are wrong. The truth is somewhere in the middle.
NewZealand also be saluted for its bold decision, though its economy is depending upon US support. I dont know anyone has analysed this. US can protect its people to some extent from the terrorists, since one has to cross sea to reach USA. However, it is not so in the case of European Countries. There are already enough Arab population living there and their location is more vulnearble.
bb – my remark about latinos is peripheral here. I meant to indicate that for american their lives (read interests) are more important than anyone else (they can kill 10 non americans to keep one business going. And even within the US, some are more equal than others.
