இலவச மின்புத்தகங்கள்

பாம் கைக்கணினி வைத்திருப்பவர்கள் இன்று முதல் கிறிஸ்துமஸ்வரை தினமும் ஒரு இலவச மின்புத்தகத்தை இறக்கிக் கொள்ளலாம் என்று என்னுடைய நண்பன் ஒருவன் சொல்கிறான். (என்னிடம் பாம் கிடையாது, நான் நான்கு வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு காஸியோப்பியா ஈ-100 வாங்கினேன். இப்பொழுது அதன் மின்கலம் கடைசி மூச்சு விட்டுக்கொண்டு இருக்கும் நிலையில், அதில் பதிலினக்ஸைப் போட்டுப் பார்க்கலாமா என்று இருக்கிறேன்).
இன்றைய புத்தகம் ஒன்றும் அவ்வளவு சுவாரசியம் இல்லை (Andersen’s Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen) இது என்னிடம் பல நாட்களாக மின்புத்தக வடிவில் இருக்கிறது (என்னுடைய மகன் விக்ரமுக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த புத்தகம்). இருந்தாலும் நேர்த்தியான வடிவில் இலவசமாகக் கிடைத்தால் – முயன்று பார்த்துச் சொல்லுங்களேன்.
மின் புத்தகம் பற்றிய இன்னொரு தகவல் – சில நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு open e-book தரக்குழு பற்றி எழுதியிருந்தேன். இந்தக் குழுவில் முக்கிய உறுப்பினர்கள் மைக்ரோஸாப்ட், அடோபி மற்றும் பாம். இவர்கள் மூவரும் தத்தம் காப்புரிமை பெற்ற மின்புத்தக வடிவத்தையே முன்னிருத்துவதால்தான் மின்புத்தகச் சந்தை விரிவடையாமல் இருக்கிறது என்று கூறுகிறார்கள். < a href=http://www.hindustantimes.com/2003/Oct/16/181_411776,00030010.htm> மேலதிகத் தகவல். HTML, XML போல திறந்த வடிவப் பொதுத் தரங்கள் வந்தால்தான் மின்புத்தக உலகு விரிவடையும். இதில் மைக்ரோஸாப்ட்டின் அராஜகம் சொல்லி மாளாது.
மைக்ரோசாப்ட்டின் அராஜகம் எதில்தான் இல்லை ..
வல்லான் வகுத்ததே சட்டம் .. எதிர்க்கட்சியே இல்லாத ஆளுங்கட்சியல்லவா அவர்கள் ..
அப்புறம்.. இலவச மின்புத்தகம் பற்றி இப்போதுதான் தெரிந்துகொண்டேன் .. இது ஒரு புதிய தகவல்( எனக்கு..)

குமரகுரு, கட்டாயம் கடைத்தேங்காய்தான் (என்னிடம் குட்டென்பெர்க் வடிவத்தை எடுத்து மொபிபாக்கெட் மின்புத்தகமாக்கியதுதான் இருக்கிறது). ஆனாலும் குட்டென்பெர்க்கின் வெற்று உரைகளை நேர்த்தியான வடிவில் மின்புத்தகமாக்கித் தருவதும் ஒரு தொண்டுதானே (வியாபாரம்தானே என்றும் படிக்கவும்).
Can you read tamil e-books in the pocket PC? I will be very interested in the steps. Is there a e-kalappai for Windows CE? It will be (again) useful for me to type in the mobile.

If you want to read so-called Tamil e-books, that come in pdf format, most likely yes, even though I haven’t tried myself. I had a PPC 2002 iPAQ till last month, that had an acrobat reader, bulky though. I don’t know about Tamiloviam kind of html ebooks. On the other hand, if you want to read a TSCII content using ebook sort of interface, there was one application I used satisfatorily. It renders the TSCII fonts properly. I forgot the name (freeware) right now. If you want to try it I will get it asap.

I could find no reason for people to create software and then give it out for free.
It costs hell of time to develop something, why not sell it?
There must be some reason.
